1. “The history and nature of Cyprus” – Troodos, Kykkos, Omodos

Our first stop is the monastery of Chrysioroyatissa, dedicated to Our Lady of the Golden Garnet, erected in the XII century. Further, through the Paphos forest, we will head to the northern part of Troodos, where Kykkos is located – the most important and richest monastery in Cyprus. It was here that the first president of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios, became a young monk and was later buried in accordance with his will. Among the most important relics of the monastery, a special place is occupied by the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, the authorship of which is attributed to the holy Apostle Luke. Our tour will continue through the picturesque valley of Marafassa, also known as the cherry valley, which houses many picturesque villages. We will stop in one of the villages to provide you free time for lunch. On the way to the village of Omodos we will stop at the monastery of Trikukja. This is a convent dedicated to the Virgin Mary, whose miraculous icon protects against natural disasters. We will make the last stop in the village of Omodos, a picturesque mountain village located in the famous wine-producing region of Afames, in the Limassol region. Here we walk through the cobbled streets, which are located in cozy coffee shops and shops with local products. We will visit the monastery of the Holy Cross, where a unique Christian relic is kept – a fragment of a rope with which Jesus was attached to the cross by the Romans. In the village, you can also see an old wine press, a glass-blowing workshop, and the work of other artisans. Here you will have time for tasting dessert wine called “Commandaria” and local strong alcoholic drink “Zivania”.

2. “Take a look at local traditions and culture” – Original Cyprus

Day: Tuesday Price: 23 euros for an adult, 15 euros for a child (breakfast included in the price of the excursion)

Our journey will begin with a stop at the pottery workshop in the village of Yeroskipou, where we will see how modern potters continue the traditions of the ancient craft, perhaps you are even lucky enough to try your hand at the potter’s wheel. Next we will focus on the central square of the village, where the unique 5-domed church of St. Paraskeva, built in the 9th century and presumably on the site of the ancient temple of the goddess Aphrodite, has been preserved. Here we will have the opportunity to see the manufacturing process of “Lukumi” (Turkish Delight) and take a walk around the square with various trading shops. Next we will go to the small village of Letimbu, where Sofia’s traditional village house awaits you, which will show us the process of making traditional halumi cheese, baking village bread and other local products. After that, we are waited by a traditional Cypriot breakfast, cooked by Sofia, with fresh Halloumi cheese, and a cup of coffee or tea (breakfast is included in the price). Our next stop will be the Monastery of St. Neophytos the Recluse, the stavropegic male monastery of the Cyprus Orthodox Church. The monastery was founded by the hermit Neophyte in the XII century, and the monastery church was erected after the death of the saint, in the XVI century, and was dedicated to the Mother of God. In your free time you can visit the skete (“anklistra”) – a cave carved into the mountain by a hermit, painted with Byzantine frescoes. On the way back to Paphos we will visit the local winery, where we will be introduced to the production of wine and will give the opportunity to taste it.

3. “Enjoy the rest and crystal clear waters of the lagoon” – Boat trip to the Blue Lagoon

We will head to the northern part of the Paphos region, to the fishing port of Latchi, where we will board the ship to make an unforgettable boat trip along the coast of the Akamas peninsula, with its crystal clear waters and picturesque bays. From the side of the ship you will see the Church of St. George, the Island of St. George, the sea caves of Manolis Bay, the Playa Bay and, finally, the Blue Lagoon in Hamili Bay. We will anchor in the Blue Lagoon or in the Fountain of Amorosa (depending on weather conditions) and you will have free time to sail. The Blue Lagoon is distinguished by shallow water and warmer water, while the Fountain of Amorosa, due to its rocky shores and greater depth, will be an ideal place to sharpen your diving skills. During the stay in the Blue Lagoon, masks and snorkels are provided free of charge, as well as a welcome drink and fresh seasonal fruits from the ship’s captain.

On the way to Nicosia, we will make a small stop at Hirokitiya station between Limassol and Nicosia. Arriving in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, whose historical past is closely intertwined with the bustle of the modern city, we will visit the Cathedral of St. John. Next, we will take a walk through the narrow streets of the old town and the Laiki Gitonia quarter. Lidra pedestrian street is a shopping area within the old city of Nicosia. A 15-minute walk from Lidra Street are Makarios Avenue and Stasikratus Street, where premium brand shops are located. You will have enough free time for lunch, shopping and visiting the sights of the capital. Those wishing to visit the Church of Saints Kipriyan and Justinia in the village of Meniko have the opportunity to do so for an additional fee.

5. “Cosmopolitan City” – Limassol

We will make the first stop on the ruins of the ancient city-state called Kourion, founded in the 10th century BC, which flourished in the period from the 8th to the 5th century BC. Here we will see many interesting excavations, including the house of Efstolios and the majestic theater with a magnificent view of Episkopi bay. We will continue our journey and visit the village of Kolossi, where the medieval castle of the same name is located (optional visit, for an additional fee), which was once a defensive stronghold of the crusaders on the island. After that, we will continue our journey to the city of Limassol, where you have two options to choose from:

  • Option 1: Those wishing to stroll through the narrow streets of the old city of Limassol and indulge in shopping, our bus takes you to the center of the old city, where the medieval fort of Limassol is located, a modern marina and a market square where you can spend your free time.
  • Option 2: Cyprus Land (Cyprus Land) – a unique project dedicated to the medieval history of Cyprus. With the help of modern 3D technology, we will see the island of Cyprus in miniature with all its castles and monasteries, ancient cities and ports; we will also see how the knights lived on the island, see the ships on which Berengaria of Navarre arrived on the island. This is a great opportunity to get to know the key moments of the history of Cyprus (with an audio guide), the geography of the island and the most significant sights in a short period of time!

On our way back to Paphos, we will stop at the Stone of Aphrodite, where, according to legend, the goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite was born from sea foam. You will have free time for swimming. According to local belief, if you sweep over the Stone of Aphrodite, you can gain eternal youth and beauty!

6. “Ghost Town” – Famagusta

On the way to Nicosia, we will make a short stop at Hirokitiya Station between Limassol and Nicosia, where you can relax and have a cup of coffee. Continuing our journey, we will cross the Green Line at the Strovilia checkpoint (passport required). The next stop is the monastery of the Apostle Barnabas, built in the V century. Here is the burial place of the saint (the tomb of the Apostle Barnabas), and the monastery itself is now converted into a museum of icons and archaeological artifacts. Next stop – the ruins of the largest ancient city of Cyprus – Salamis, which was built in the XII century BC. For two thousand years this ancient city has been the most important political and commercial center of the island. You will be given time to visit the ancient theater and gymnasium. Next, we will head to the city of Famagusta, which was founded by the Egyptian king Ptolemy II, in the third century BC. The city is famous for the Cathedral of St. Nicholas (now the Mosque of Lal Mustafa Pasha), built in the Gothic style, as well as the fortress and tower of Othello. Before heading to Paphos, we will drive past the suburb of Famagusta, the “ghost town” of Varosha, where you can see abandoned houses, hotels that were abandoned by residents during the 1974 war, as well as deserted beaches, the best beaches in Cyprus.

7. “Akamas by mini-bus” – Adventure Akamas

First, we will visit the picturesque Avakas gorge, a great place for hiking and exploring the local flora and fauna, where, among other things, you will see the endemic plant Centauria Acamandis, which is on the verge of extinction. The walls of the gorge, formed mainly by limestone, reach a height of 30 m and at a certain point sharply narrowed. Next, we will continue our journey along the coast, to Lara Bay Beach, a place where sea turtles lay their masonry: Green Sea (Chelonia Mydas) and Loggerhead (Caretta Caretta). You will learn about the project of guarding turtles, about the life of these amazing animals, you will see turtle clutches, and, if lucky, you will see newborn turtles (from late July to October). You will have time for swimming on this secluded beach. We will make the next stop next to the Church of St. George, where, as a result of excavations in the 1950s, the ruins of three early Christian basilicas and a bathhouse were discovered. You will be given free time for lunch. On the way back we will see sea caves, the mysterious outlines of which resemble “sculptures” carved by sea waves in the rocky coastline.

On the way to Larnaca, we will make a short stop at Hirokitiya station between Limassol and Nicosia, where you can relax and have a cup of coffee. The next stop is the city of Larnaca – a port and tourist city on the southern coast of Cyprus. It is known for its Phinikoudes promenade and the Church of St. Lazarus. The temple, erected at the burial place of the saint at the beginning of the X century, is one of the most remarkable examples of Byzantine architecture in Cyprus. Inside the church are stored the relics of St. Lazarus. Next we head to the monastery of St. Thecla. According to legend, the monastery was built on the spot where St. Helena discovered a healing spring during her visit to Cyprus. The source of holy water exists in this place to this day, and the healing properties that heal skin diseases are attributed to it. Next we will have the opportunity to visit the village of Meniko, where we will visit the church of St. Cyprian and St. Justinia. After visiting the churches, we will have free time for lunch in the picturesque village of Kakopetria. Our last stop will be one of the largest villages in the Limassol wine region. "Krasochoria" – Kilani village. The village has a rich cultural heritage and ancient wine-making traditions. Here we will visit the Aya Mavri chapel, built in the XII century. The walls of the chapel are decorated with frescoes, which are outstanding examples of church painting of its period. The building of the chapel is covered with the crown of an ancient plane tree, and here it will be possible to draw water from a holy spring.

9. “European Capital of Culture 2017” – Paphos

A tour of the main tourist sites of Kato Paphos, in which you will learn about the history of the city and its area, which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Our first stop will be the Archaeological Park with world famous mosaics. Next we will visit the Church of St. Cyriacus, the column of the Holy Apostle Paul and the catacombs of St. Solomon. Our tour of the city will continue towards the center, we will visit the central area of ​​Paphos, where this year there will be many cultural events. During the walk, you will see the city hall and city hall, as well as the school. After leaving the city, we will go to the northern coast of the Paphos region, to the Baths of Aphrodite.
